Hello all,
Welcome back to Two Spring Chicks. Although we don't have any baby goats this year we do have some new arrivals that are awfully cute!
We just got our order of guinea hen keets or as Chick Three calls them "little Kevins". They are much smaller and cuter that I thought they would be!
We also had a successful hatch ourselves with 6 new additions to the flock. This year has come exceptionally good hatch rates and we've been excited to hear how others have enjoyed hatching (and in some cases) raising there new chicks.
Here's our chicks. Now moving into the coop.
We got a late start on the gardens this year, but they're coming right along!
Here's Dad with Chick Two and Three planting and preparing the soil last month. I love this picture, nothing barn boots and skirts! The back gardens are much greener now.
Now few a few tidbits! This may I graduated high school! The ceremony was beautiful. Thank you to my parents for all the work they have put into my life. I love you! And to everyone who had a hand in the graduation.

Chick Three had her first ballet recital! She was a wonderful butterfly! Great Job!

Feather Fascinators!
Here Two Spring Chicks we have more than just an abundance of eggs, we also have some beautiful feathers. In honor of the Royal Wedding we made these fun fascinators!
Each of us made a different style. Here is Chick Two's

And mine! You should have seen the funny looks I got in Concord yesterday afternoon. Yes, that's right I wore it out of the house.
Some of you may be wondering how we "got" the feathers. No worries we did not pluck them off the ladies or Rocky. Kevin kindly dropped a few around the yard for us. (the white polka dot ones are hers) The black and white ones we saved from one of our old roosters in hopes of using them for fly fishing. I think they went to perfectly good use though.
We had a wonderful time wearing them this morning during the wedding, for now though I think we'll put the feathers aside and take a nap.

Easter
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter Sunday!
Since our beautiful blue eggs took a starring role in this years decoration I thought I'd share.
Chick Two and I spent most of friday afternoon making these place settings. Boiling eggs, cutting out the letters, and shredding the paper to make the nests. They turned out great and added the perfect touch to our table.

Didn't this turn out nice? This is the adult table(just in case you were trying to figure out seating in your head)

Introductions!
Well here are the promised pictures.
Two Spring Chicks welcomes Kevin!
She happily sleeps in a tree and patrols the barn yard during the day. After all our recent attacks, it's a comfort knowing she's our watch dog.
We also are very happy to welcome our new rooster, Rocky Road.
We adopted him from some of our dear friends at church who had one too many roosters. So far he's be wonderful, the ladies seem very pleased with him and so far he's as gentle as a lamb( which greatly pleases Chick Two and Three).

Math Problem
Here's a word problem for you. It pretty much explains the last couple of months that have been silent on this blog!
You start a a business with 30 hens, while they're out free-ranging you loose 2 to a hawk. Next month lose 5 to weasel. In December a fisher cat takes 4 and your rooster. The next week the weasel comes back for a visit and takes out 3 everyday for 5 days. You make every adjustment to your coop, then after weeks you finally catch that weasel! Find a deal on craigslist and buy 12 news hens and adopt a guinea hen for security.
If you couldn't keep up that brings us to a current total of 16 hens and 1 guinea hen. I don't have any pictures of the new girls yet and I have to get you a picture of Kevin ( our guinea hen/watch dog).
Be looking for another update!

Go Local!
Hello again,
Yes we're still here : ) I just wanted to give a shout out to all the local farms and different food providers. Since the Salmonella outbreak our business has skyrocketed as have many other local egg providers and farmers markets. Knowing where you food comes from is really important these days and this was a great reminder not only for your local egg industry but for all us to consider where your food is coming from. So thanks to our customers and our community for supporting us and other local farmers.
For those of you haven't tried local produce and eggs yet Henny Penny and the chicks want to encourage you to try your local farmer's market. You won't be sorry!
